It was West Indies hard-hitting all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, who hit Stokes for four straight sixes in the final over to finish off the game after needing 19 runs to win.

According to a report in The Daily Telegraph, Stokes said that he did'nt want to get back up from his feet and felt the whole world had come down upon him before citing it was complete devastation.

“I didn’t know what to do. It took me so long to get back on my feet. I didn’t want to get back up. It was like the whole world had come down on me. There weren’t any good things going through my mind. It was just complete devastation.”

The 24-year-old, played a superb role in the last over against New Zealand in the semis, but the final wasn't his day.

Stokes was left in tears as he was on his haunches after the four deliveries bowled.

Stokes said that he thought he'd just lost the World Cup.

“I thought, ‘I’ve just lost the World Cup’. I couldn’t believe it,” Stokes said.
