World T20: Netherlands beat Ireland by 12 runs in rain truncated match
Both the teams have already exited the tournament.
New Delhi: Even as rain continued to play spoilsport in the qualifying phase of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20, the Netherlands ended their campaign on a winning note, defeating Ireland by 12 runs on Sunday at Dharamsala.
Asking to bat first, Netherlands managed 59 for the loss of five wickets with the rain forcing to a six-overs a side match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.
Opener Stephan Myburgh, who made 27 off 18 deliveries with five hits to the boundary, was the top scorer of the match. Only other batsman to score in doubled figures in the innings was skipper Peter Borren, who made 15 off nine.
For Ireland, slow left-arm spinner George Dockrell took three wickets from his two overs spell, conceding seven runs. Other two wickets were run-outs.
In reply, Ireland could only managed 47 runs with Paul Stirling being the lone batsman to score in double figures, 15.
Right-arm fast medium bowler Paul van Meekeren exploited the overcast conditions to the hilt taking four wickets in his two overs spell. Besides, the 22-year-old conceded only four runs to set an easy win.
Both the teams have already exited the tournament.
