US President Barack Obama has met Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal in the Oval Office for talks, amid the growing political tensions in the Persian Gulf.

"The President and Prince Saud affirmed the strong partnership between the United States and Saudi Arabia and discussed recent developments on key regional issues of mutual interest," the White House said in a statement yesterday.
Obama asked Prince Saud to convey his best wishes to King Abdullah bin Abd Al-Aziz, the White House said. The visiting Saudi Foreign Minister also met Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the State Department headquarters in Foggy Bottom.
Before the meeting, a Clinton aide said that the top US diplomat was expected to talk about virtually all of the regional issues ? situation in Iran, situation in Iraq, promoting the democratic transition in Egypt, Bahrain and Syria.
