Requested CM Arvind Kejriwal to let Delhi host 4th India-South Africa Test: Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir said that he requested CM Arvind Kejriwal to let Delhi host 4th India-South Africa Test.
New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir revealed that he has requested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to let Delhi host the fourth Test match between India and South Africa.
The Delhi Ranji skipper posted a series of tweets sharing what transpired during the meeting, and said that Delhi fans should not be deprived of cricketing action.
The 34-year-old India opener, however, requested not to speculate on anything except matters of cricket.
The left-handed opener also said, the meeting was arranged by the CM himself and they didn't discuss about Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) financial irregularities.
Besides, Gambhir also claimed that the CM is keen on opening Centres for Cricketing Excellence in the national capital.
The Delhi government on Thursday appointed a three-member committee to probe allegations of corruption in DDCA and asked the panel to submit the findings within two days.
The DDCA was grappling with meeting the November 17 deadline set by BCCI to get all required clearances from authorities concerned to host the fourth test match between India and South Africa scheduled between December 3 and 7.
The committee, headed by Principal Secretary of Vigilance Department Chetan Sanghi, has been asked to examine complaints of financial fraud and structural irregularities in DDCA among others.
The DDCA owes around Rs 24 crores to Delhi government as entertainment tax. The Delhi government has been pushing DDCA to pay the amount as soon as possible.
The probe committee comprises secretary in the sports department Punya Salila Srivastava and Delhi government's senior Standing Counsel member Rahul Mehra.
Recently, former Indian captain Bishan Singh Bedi and Madan Lal had met Kejriwal and requested him to intervene in "cleaning up" DDCA.
