The incident took place during a match between Hampshire and Middlesex at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, where Voges was struck on the back of the head by a ball thrown by the substitute fielder Ollie Rayner and missed by the wicketkeeper, John Simpson.

The right-hander fell straight to the floor after which he was rushed to the hospital.

There was no serious scare as he was released hours later, reportedly suffering headaches.

The 36-year-old will now take no further part in the ongoing match.
