Even though, there is no official word on it, according to a report in Cricket Country, close sources of the franchise believe that there is no one but Khawaja who has been their option for Pietersen’s replacement.

If the southpaw will be named as KP's replacement, the ongoing edition is going to be his maiden IPL season.

Surprisingly, despite having an outstanding season in Big Bash, Khawaja went unsold in IPL 2016 auction.

MS Dhoni-led Pune franchise started off the season on a winning note but their performance tapered off as the tournament progressed.

They have lost four matches on the trot after winning their first game.

Earlier, KP had injured his calf muscle during RPS’s clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore and was ruled out of the tournament.
