New Delhi: Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Wednesday awarded former Sri Lanka batsman Mahela Jayawardene with its Honorary Life Membership.

It makes Jayawardene the 14th Sri Lankan cricketer to get the MCC Honorary Life Membership.


Earlier his teammates Kumar Sangakkara, Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas were awarded with the same.  


In his 18-year of successful cricketing career Jayawardene played 149 Test matches and scored 11,814 runs at an average of 49.84.


He played his final game at Lord's in 2014 against England, which ended in a draw.


Colombo-born cricketer, is currently working as a batting consultant with England team.
