Bangalore: Karnataka Home Minister R Ashoka on Tuesday denied that Governor H R Bhardwaj exerted pressure on the state government in promoting an aide to IPS grade. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here, the minister said as a constitutional functionary, the Governor, who has written a letter to the government favouring such a promotion, has the right to give suggestions.
He said the letter has been referred to the State DGP and Home Secretary for their opinion and once it`s received, the state government would take a decision.
Ashoka said the state can only send in its recommendation, while it`s in the purview of the Central government to confirm the promotion or not.
The case pertains to K C V Mane, the security officer (ADC rank) to Governor, who had requested the state government to promote him considering his services. PTI
