Shastri, whose tenure as Team India director got over immediately after the ICC World T20 2016, recently showed his interest in coaching Team India by saying, “18 months spent with the current team (as the director) was the most memorable experience”.

The BCCI has opened the recruitment process for the position of head coach, with the deadline for applications being June 10. The board posted an advertisement on its website on the evening of June 1.

The cricket board is expected to announce the name of new coach on June 24.

Recently, former Indian cricketer and chief national selector, Sandeep Patil, has also applied for the same post.

Patil's tenure as a chief selector is going to end in September, which makes him eligible to apply for the coaching job.

Patil has coaching experience thanks to stints with Kenyan national team and various age-group Indian teams.
