Beijing: China on Monday congratulated Francois Hollande for his French Presidential election win and said it was ready to work with the country to develop a comprehensive strategic partnership.
"Maintaining healthy, stable and positive development of the China-France relationship is in the interest of the two countries and the two peoples, and will also benefit world peace, stability and development," Chinese Foreign ministry spokesman, Hong Lei told a media briefing here. "China regards the two countries` relationship with a long-term strategic view and is willing to work with France to further develop the their comprehensive strategic partnership under the principle of mutual respect, equality and caring about each other`s core interests," he said.
The 57-year-old Socialist, who won elections against France`s outgoing right-wing leader Nicolas Sarkozy, also received congratulatory messages from US president Barak Obama, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseffs, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, Deputy Foreign Minister of Uruguay Roberto Conde and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santo.
However, the results led to concerns in China, which hold huge euro-denominated debt, as Hollande has vowed to slow the pace of Sarkozy`s public spending cuts and renegotiate the EU fiscal pact. PTI
