New Delhi: New Zealand teenager Glenn Phillips hit six sixes in an over recently to write a new chapter in English cricket history.
The South African-born wicket-keeper batsman achieved the rare feat while playing for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at Arundel last weekend.
Duke of Norfolk XI was the team against which the 19-year-old batsman collected 36 runs off an over. And with that he has become the latest entrant to join the elite list of batsmen.
Phillips went on to score a brilliant double century in that innings. He is currently with the MCC as part of their young cricketers' program.
For the records, only two batsmen have hit six sixes in an over in international cricket - South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs (against the Netherlands in 2007 ODI World Cup) and India’s Yuvraj Singh (against England in the T20 World Cup in 2007).
And as far as first-class cricket is concerned, West Indian great Garfield Sobers did it in County cricket and India’s Ravi Shastri did the same in Ranji trophy.
