Mumbai: Maharashtra government on Friday said the vacant posts of nurses in government hospitals in the state would be filled by the end of this year.
State Health Minister Suresh Shetty said this in the Legislative Council here.
The government has created posts of specialist doctors, which did not exist earlier, Shetty said. "The government has newly created 550 posts of specialist doctors in the state to provide services to people at the district level alongwith the medical officers," he said.
"We have filled 3,000 posts of medical officers in last two years," the minister added. Shiv Sena legislator Dr Neelam Gohre had raised the issue stating that a woman and an infant died in Daund in Pune district. Replying to it, Shetty said it was a case of negligence and that he had given instructions to suspend the concerned doctor.
The minister further said the government had issued 15-days notice to 226 doctors, who were not reporting for duty for over a year.
