Jammu: Police on Thursday arrested local forest contractor Pervez Ahmed Tak, who had gone underground after a SUV belonging to missing Pakistan-born Bollywood starlet Laila Khan, was recovered from his place in Kishtwar town of Jammu and Kashmir.
"We have arrested Tak and he is being interrogated about the case", a senior Police officer said.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police seized an SUV belonging to Pakistan-born Bollywood starlet Laila Khan, who went missing with her family about an year ago, from a shop in Kishtwar town on May 29 night.
The Mitsubishi Outlander, with a Maharashtra registration number was parked inside a shop, which had been taken on rent by a local forest contractor, Pervez Ahmed Tak, about six months ago. Tak, who contested the 2008 Assembly elections from Inderwal constituency, was absconding since then. J and K Police after the recovery of the vehicle had contacted the Mumbai police to find out the actual owners of the vehicle. The suspected the vehicle was also linked to some crime-related incident in Maharashtra.
The seized vehicle was registered in the name of Saleena Patel, mother of Laila Khan, a Pakistani actress who debuted in Bollywood opposite Rajesh Khanna in Wafaa in 2008.
It may be recalled that one Shakir Hussain, a friend of Tak, was already detained by Kishtwar police after recovery of the vehicle.
Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) is looking for the actor and her family including the mother who reportedly left Mumbai for Kishtwar with one Ateeq Khan, a Kashmiri, to attend a wedding. The family was reportedly missing ever since. Laila`s father, Nadir Shah Patel, had filed a complaint at a Mumbai police station stating that his daughter has gone missing along with her mother Saleena Patel, sister Azmina Patel, her stepfather Asif Sheikh and family friend Parvez Iqbal Tak.
