Steven Finn puts England on verge of win against Proteas in 1st Test
Finn dismissed Hashim Amla (12), Dean Elgar (40) and Faf du Plessis (9) in quick succession on fourth day of the 1st Test.
New Delhi: England pacer Steven Finn picked three key wickets on Day 4 of the first Test against South Africa to put his side on top of the match at Durban on Tuesday.
The Hashim Amla-led side made a cautious start in the second innings after Dean Elgar and Stiaan van Zyl added 53 runs for the first wicket. Ben Stokes finally broke the partnership when he removed Zyl in the 11th over of the second innings.
Finn took over from there as he dismissed Hashim Amla (12), Dean Elgar (40) and Faf du Plessis (9) in quick succession. He dismissed du Plessis in the last over of the day, after the right-hander was surprised by the bounce and edged one in the slip cordon.
From 54/0 at one stage, the Proteas were reduced to 136/4 at stumps.
AB de Villiers was unbetaen on 37 at close of play, with South Africa still needing 280 runs to win the match. Alastair Cook would want his bowlers to get some early breakthroughs on final day to inch closer towards what would be a tremendous win on South African soil.
