New Delhi: Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee looking into the Lokpal Bill, on Tuesday said there was no delay in the panel’s report and that it would be submitted soon.
The panel was initially scheduled to submit its final report by December 7 but it had sought some more time to finalise the report.
Sources said the report would be submitted in Parliament by December 9. The Standing Committee will hold a final meeting tomorrow to finalise the report, Singhvi said, adding there was no delay in the report and that the draft would satisfy everyone.
“We will take into account each and every area of Lokpal,” he stated.
Commenting on the issue of Team Anna rejecting the panel’s draft report which excluded the Prime Minister, the judiciary, the CBI and Central government’s Group C and D employees, Singhvi said “the panel was not drafting the report to satisfy any specific person” or group. “We are writing the report to satisfy our conscience,” he said, indicating one has the right to protest if he is unhappy.
“It’s a democracy,” the Congress leader told reporters.
