The Delhi batsman, who was named India's Cricket of the Year at BCCI's annual awards ceremony in Mumbai on Tuesday, has defeated the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of popularity.

Under the captaincy of Kohli, India won two Test series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. Both wins were pivotal, as on one hand India won a Test series on Lankan soil after a period of over two decades, on the other hand they ended South Africa's unbeaten nine-year run away from home with a comprehensive 3-0 win in a four-match series.
