The incident, which is occurred at Meikles hotel in Central Harare, was confirmed by Assistant Police Commissioner Charity Charamba.

“The victim has pointed an Indian national from the batch that came in last week, at this point I’m not in the position to reveal whether it’s a player or official as I’m bound by law. But, what I can confirm is that the accused appeared in court on Saturday,” she further added.

“We have concluded our investigation, but both the police and courts have to handle the issue with care as it can lead to a potential diplomatic feud.”

It is being reported that India’s High Commissioner to Zimbabwe is trying to resolve the matter.

According to a source close to this development, the victim was loitering in the passage of the hotel and invited for drinks.

“The girl claims to have been drugged, then waking up to bloodied undergarments in one of the member’s rooms. She also said that she had no clue on how she reached the room.

“Certain senior officials from India were seen in the hotel, attempting to pacify the situation. They spoke to the woman, and several of the city’s law makers,” the source further added.

The Harare police did not name the individual, but confirmed that it was an Indian national from the same hotel the MS Dhoni-led side is staying at.

The hotel staff has confirmed that no Indian national other than the touring cricket contingent has checked in the past week.

ANI however has now reported that the arrested individual was not a cricketer but an Indian affiliated with one of the sponsors.
