Ex-Maldivian president Nasheed to travel to US
Maldives` ousted president Mohammed Nasheed is reportedly going to the US to attend a premiere of movie `The Island President`.
Male: As civil strife continues in Maldives, the country`s ousted president Mohammed Nasheed is travelling to the US from Sri Lanka.
Sources close to Nasheed say that he is going to US to attend a premiere of movie `The Island President` which depicts his efforts to raise Global concern over the Climate Change Crisis faced by the low lying countries.
He is also to address the Columbia University in the course of which he would have an interaction with the media and the audience present there.
Nasheed yesterday met members of international community based at Colombo in his first trip abroad since resignation on February 07. Meanwhile, a traffic police officer on duty near here was attacked on Thursday night by a sharp object.
His condition was serious and he was taken to Colombo for further treatment this morning, said Hassan Haneef, media officer at Maldives Police Service. Haneef said three people, including a teenager, have been arrested in connection with the attack.
Recently, there have been serious attacks at Police Officers patrolling Male City and all the parties agree that none should resort to violence and such inhumane actions cannot be tolerated.
