New Delhi: The city government`s new industrial estate housing around 4,500 enterprises in Outer Delhi will soon become a reality with Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) finally clearing the decks for construction of factories there.
The new industrial estate is coming up in Bhorgarh in Bawana and 4,472 entrepreneurs running their industrial unit in non-conforming and residential areas can now set up their factories, Delhi Industries Minister Ramakant Goswami said in a statement.
The Delhi State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) completed the development of this industrial area in 2010 though the plots were allotted to 4,472 entrepreneurs in 2005-06. "2,900 entrepreneurs had made payment for the plot. However, they could not construct their factories since MCD was not approving the building plans pending its approval of the layout of the industrial area.
"The scheme and the layout plan for the industrial area were earlier approved by DDA in 2005. We have been pursuing the matter at the highest level and finally we have got the layout approval by MCD," Goswami said.
Supreme Court had in 1996 ordered closure of industrial units functioning from residential and non-conforming areas of the capital. It had agreed for relocation of industries from these areas to conforming zones by developing new industrial areas and flatted factory complexes.
Goswami said the city government developed the new industrial area in Bhorgarh keeping in mind employment of workers and other issues. The government also utilised the existing industrial lands at Narela, Jhilmil, Badli and Patparganj to relocate the affected industrial units. The Industries Department has allotted industrial plots and flatted factories to 22,499 industrial units functioning in residential and non-conforming areas under the Scheme of Relocation of the Government of Delhi.
Goswami also announced that the last date for payment by the remaining entrepreneurs has been extended to February 29. PTI
