Champions League: Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund vie for top spot, pride at stake as Bayern Munich host Atletico Madrid
Dortmund are just one shy of matching the 20-goal group stage record, achieved by Manchester United and Real Madrid previously.
New Delhi: With majority of the teams progressing to the Round of 16 already decided, there are a few heading into the final group stage showdown of the 2016-17 Champions League season without much knowledge of what fate the night holds for them.
Real Madrid, who sit 2 points behind Group F leaders Borussia Dortmund, will be hoping to give the Germans a tough fight in bid to claim top spot.
In Group D, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich have already progressed as Group winners and runners-up, respectively. In the last group stage encounter, Carlo Ancelloti's German champions will be playing for pride against Diego Simeone's Spanish giants.
In Group G, Portuguese giants Porto host English champions Leicester City in their final group stage match understanding that a loss would give FC Copenhagen, who face Club Brugge, an opportunity to pip them to second in Group G.
Despite massive struggle in the Premier League, Leicester are guaranteed to finish top of their section in Europe which will help them avoid the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the next round.
Porto can only secure their passage to the last 16 with victory over Claudio Ranieri's men, but anything less will open the door for Danish club Copenhagen, since they have a head-to-head advantage on away goals.
In Group H, three-time reigning Europa League champions Sevilla are favourites to advance alongside Italian giants Juventus, which means there will be a new Europa League champion this term. Third placed Lyon, however, need to beat the Spaniards by at least two goals at Parc OL to advance to the next round of Europe's premier competition.
Juventus, who face Dinamo Zagreb, have already progressed into the next round but their progression as Group winners will be under question if they don't get all three points against the Croatian club.
As far as stats are concerned, Dortmund are just one shy of matching the 20-goal group stage record, achieved by three sides including Manchester United`s treble-winning 1998-99 side as well as the Real team that landed 'La Decima' team in 2014.
A draw would send BVB through as winners of Group F, with Real's hopes of retaining the title being put on the sword as the prospect of facing a tougher draw looms.
