Dehradun: Uttarakhand Police are still groping in the dark in the case of suicide by three sisters along with their six children, even though the DGP claimed that investigations are on track and ruled out handing over the probe to other agencies of the state police. "We are confident that our police will investigate the matter promptly," DGP J S Pande said today. Pandey`s comments came after police failed to make any headway in the mass suicide case in which three sisters along with their six children allegedly plunged into a canal near here on Tuesday reportedly due to extreme depression after the death of their elder sister.
On Wednesday, one of the deceased sister Ravita`s husband Manoj was also found hanging from a tree.
Meanwhile, the deceased sisters` mother Kailasho Devi, who was found in an unconscious state on the bank of the canal, had been giving contradictory statements. Earlier, Devi, who has been booked in connection with the case, had blamed her son-in-law Shokendra for instigating the family to take the extreme step, but now she is citing heavy debt as the reason for the mass suicide.
Uttarakhand Police had yesterday registered a case of murder, abatement to suicide and concealing evidences against unknown persons, claiming that it is for sure that the six children were murdered, the women were abated to commit suicide and facts are being concealed. A case has also been registered against the deceased`s another sister Rita.
