Ranchi: Several places in Jharkhand on Saturday experienced temperatures three to five degrees above normal with the mercury soaring to 46.5 degree celsius in Garhwa.
For nearly three weeks, Garhwa has been in the grip of intense heat wave with no respite in sight, according to MeT office sources.
While Garhwa and Palamau are experiencing a temperature five degrees above normal, the temperature in the eastern and southern parts of the state is three to four degrees above normal", Director MeT, Ranchi, GK Mohanty, said. "The heat wave condition will continue for the next 48 hours, he said. Some parts of the state, however, would witness cloudy sky with rains in isolated places during the next 48 hours, he said.
While Palamau experienced 45.5 degrees celsius, Latehar (44), and Lohardaga (43.7), the temperatures were also above normal at Gumla (42), Bokaro (42.8), Hazaribagh (42), Jamshedpur 41.6) and West Singhbhum (41.6), the sources said. Ranchi, once the summer capital of undivided Bihar, registered 42 degree celsius, the second time this summer.
