Nepal Christians demand separate burial ground
The Christians of Nepal threatened nationwide hunger strike if its demand for a separate burial ground is not met.
Kathmandu: The Christian community of Nepal
has threatened to launch a nationwide hunger strike if its
demand for a separate burial ground in the capital is not
met.
Theo Christian Burial Space National Struggle Committee has set Monday as the deadline for addressing their issue.
"After Monday, we will stage a relay hunger strike outside the Ministry of Culture at Singha Durbar secretariat," said CB Gahatraj, general secretary of the struggle committee.
"The government has ignored our demands." He said that even the committee formed under the Culture Ministry to recommend appropriate burial spaces has not done anything so far. On October 3, the government had formed a seven member committee to suggest appropriate burial site for the Christians, Kirati and Muslim communities living in the Capital. The committee with one month`s mandate has not done anything so far, he said.
