Mangalore: A constable attached to the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) of Karnataka Police was killed in an encounter with Naxallites at Manjalukadu forest range in Dakshina Kannada district in the wee hours on Sunday.
On a tip off that a 25-member Naxal team has been camping at Manjalukadu forest area, the ANF batallion launched combing operations. When the Naxals opened fire at the ANF, killing the constable Rane, the force retaliated, police said.
It was not known immediately whether there were any casualty on the Naxal side or the number of injured on both sides, police said.
Another ANF batallion from nearby Karkala has been rushed and combing operations have been intensified, police said. PTI
