Won`t quit or topple govt on my own: Mamata
In wake of the storm brewing between the UPA and the Trinamool Congress over Presidential poll, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee on Thursday sought to clarify that she won`t quit the government or topple it on her own.
New Delhi: In wake of the storm brewing between the UPA and the Trinamool Congress over Presidential poll, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee on Thursday stated that she wouldn’t be the first one to quit the government or topple it on her own.
Mamata further said that if she was unwanted, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi should herself ask her to leave. The fissure between Mamata and the UPA came out in the open yesterday when TMC chief along with SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav shocked Congress by rejecting Sonia’s choices for President’s post and instead proposed three new names including that of PM Manmohan Singh.
Mamata was accused of breaking the decorum by unilaterally disclosing Congress’ two presidential candidates.
Ambika Soni attacked Mamata by saying that it was unethical for her to be disclosing PM’s name for President.
Rejecting the accusations against Mamata, Trinamool Congress said that Didi had revealed the names with full consent of Sonia Gandhi.
TMC MP Kunal Ghosh said, “After their meeting yesterday, Mamataji had asked Soniaji that whether she should reveal the names of Pranab Mukherjee and Hamid Ansari if the media asks her. Soniaji gave her full consent.”
Meanwhile, Mamata would be meeting Mulayam Singh Yadav at 6 pm today to chart out future course of action.
The duo had named Manmohan Singh, Somnath Chatterjee and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam as their choices.
