Munich: Bayern Munich midfielder Arjen Robben is set to miss the beginning of the upcoming Bundesliga season as he is ruled out for six weeks with a groin injury which he sustained in a pre-season game.

The Dutchman picked up the injury while playing in Bayern`s 4-3 win over fellow German outfit SV Lippstadt 08 on Saturday. The game was also Carlo Ancelotti`s first as Bayern manager.


Robben scored once and set up another in the early stages of the encounter but was replaced in the 36th minute by youngster Mario Crnicki.


"FC Bayern will be without Arjen Robben for the next month and a half after the Dutch winger sustained a groin muscle injury in Saturday`s friendly away to Lippstadt," the current Bundesliga champions said in a statement on Sunday.


"The injury to the player`s right leg was diagnosed after an examination conducted by the club`s medical unit in Munich on Sunday. Robben will be sidelined for approximately six weeks," the statement added.


The 32-year-old Robben has been plagued with a lot of injuries recently. a statement on the website only appeared in 15 league matches during the 2015-16 campaign.
