Chandigarh: Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh and Party`s in-charge for state affairs Gulchain Singh Charak on Monday cautioned party leaders against criticising each other and the leadership in public, saying such activities will invite strong disciplinary actions.

Commenting to some party leaders gunning for him in the wake of Congress` defeat in Punjab polls, Amarinder said while they were free to raise their voice within the party, strict disciplinary action will be taken against those making statements through the media. "There are explicit orders of the Congress President in this regard, which say if anyone has any grievance he/she can approach her, if she is not available then the party general secretary concerned, or me," he said addressing a press conference.

He said any act of party indiscipline will be viewed seriously.
To a question, Amarinder said he will continue to hold the post of state Congress chief as long as the party high command desires. Meanwhile, Charak said he came across various newspaper reports in which certain party leaders had gone public and criticised the party leadership.
He said party leaders were welcome to meet him or other AICC leaders and raise the issue with them but they must not go public about these.
"Going public on the party issue amounts to gross indiscipline and anti party activity which will invite action against such leaders under party rules," Charak said in a statement here.
He said the party rank and file must put up a strong and united front to maintain and boost the morale of the workers who really worked very hard during the elections.

"Our leaders should perform the role of an effective opposition as is expected of them by the party and their supporters in fighting against the anti-people and anti-state policies of the Akali-BJP government," he said.
