US PGA Tour extends FedExCup event deal
The PGA Tour said that it has extended its agreement with Barclays Bank to continue as title sponsor of an event in the FedExCup competition despite the uncertain economic climate.
Pennsylvania: The PGA Tour said that it has extended its agreement with Barclays Bank to continue as title sponsor of an event in the FedExCup competition despite the uncertain economic climate.
Barclays will sponsor the tournament, scheduled this year for Aug 25-28 at Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey, for another five years, through 2016.
The tournament will rotate between four different courses in the New York metropolitan area under terms of the new agreement, including Bethpage Black, twice a host of the US Open.
Bethpage will be used for the tournament in 2012 and 2016. In 2013 it will be contested at Liberty National, in 2014 at Ridgewood Country Club and in 2015 at Plainfield. "Playing at Bethpage Black is in and of itself special," PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said Wednesday in a news conference at the AT&T National at Aronimink hosted by Tiger Woods in the Philadelphia suburbs.
"But also the concept over the last few years was to try to move the Barclays around the metropolitan area, a rotation that moves us from New Jersey over to Long Island. Then we`ll start looking at the years after that." In other developments, Finchem said the tour has not yet started negotiations on a new contract with its television partners. The current deals run out in 2012.
