Lakhimpur Kheri (UP): The SP has accused both BSP and Congress of promoting corruption in Uttar Pradesh.
"If `hathi (elephant) is getting fatter in UP, who, if not Congress, helped it grow in corruption?" state SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said here yesterday, ridiculing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi`s remark that an elephant (BSP`s symbol) is eating into poor people`s money in the state. Hitting out at the ruling BSP, he said, "Never before since independence, UP ministers in such large numbers have been implicated in corruption cases as in the BSP government and this is not possible without the patronage of the chief minister."
On Rahul accusing SP of being against English and computers, Akhilesh said, "Samajwadi Party is not against English but the party intended to promote the mother-tongue Hindi, which was the language of 98 per cent people." "Why not the Congress leaders urged people for vote in English if they were so much worried about the language," he said.
