Lucknow: Rejecting the allegations of corruption leveled by the opposition parties, the Mayawati government on Friday issued a White Paper on activities and tasks performed by its various departments.
Addressing a press conference in the state capital, Cabinet Secretary Sashank Shekhar Singh told reporters, “UP is the first state in India to have issued a White Paper on various functions and tasks undertaken by its 24 departments since Mayawati took over as the Chief Minister in 2007.”
“We have uploaded full information related to the performance of 24 departments on the website of the UP government. I want to tell you that we have been able to maintain transparency in whatever work we have done so far,” he said.
Singh continued, “Our conduct so far has been satisfactory and we have executed all tasks to our best capability. During the last five years a lot of work has been done in the infrastructure development, power generation and the agriculture sector and these areas have attracted a lot of investment too. The Mayawati government had taken several measures to raise money which includes borrowing from Central government, funding agencies, FDI and raising money from equity model for public welfare projects, the details of which have been uploaded on our official website and open for public scrutiny.” The top bureaucrat rejected charges of gross misconduct and corruption in various state governments and reiterated the White Paper issued by the government will answer all such questions.
However, he gave no clarification regarding the action taken by the state’s Lokayukta in connection with corruption charges leveled against various BSP MLAs and ministers in the state government.
The move comes days after the BJP and other opposition parties demanded that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati issue a white paper on the performance of the state government, declare her assets and those of her family members.
BJP asked the BSP chief to give a point-by-point reply on the allegations leveled against her brother Anand and his wife. Mayawati’s brother and his wife have been used of parking money through ghost and dummy companies in Noida. The main opposition party alleged that there are 26 companies linked with dubious transactions, dealings and investment, of which seven closed down after financial transactions of Anand Kumar.
The party said BSP was misleading the people by terming these allegations as false and baseless and making statements like "imported leaders".
In her reaction, Mayawati hit out at the opposition parties for targeting her government and the party and said such attacks would only work to her advantage in the Assembly Elections due next year.
