New Delhi: Mayor Rajni Abbi today accused the Union government of maintaining double standards when it came to the issues of division of Uttar Pradesh and Municipal Corporation of Delhi. "The Union Government, especially the Union Home Ministry is behaving differently while dealing with the issues of division of the MCD and Uttar Pradesh," Abbi said. The question of finances and funds as asked from the UP government has no mention in the case of trifurcation of MCD. Delhi government is far from such queries from the Union government, she said. In contrast to UP, the Mayor said, the Home Ministry never tried to know as to how the existing departments would be divided among the three proposed corporations of North, South and East Delhi. -
"The question also remains on how the three proposed corporations would share the tax collections or revenue and even the debt burden," she said. Abbi said trifurcation of MCD would increase financial burden as the number of staff would increase for equal distribution among the three corporations which would lead to threefold rise in expenditure. "This is because the expenditure for one headquarters of the MCD would get multiplied three times with the coming up of three headquarters of three civic bodies," she added. Abbi alleged that the Central Government did not even bother to ask the Delhi government that on what political and administrative grounds it had forwarded the proposal of MCD trifurcation. "In contrast to Uttar Pradesh, the Home Ministry never tried to know from the Congress-ruled Delhi what would be the physical boundaries of the proposed civic bodies. It also never tried to know what would be the headquarters of the new Corporations," Abbi said. While the Home Ministry has given its nod to the trifurcation of MCD, the Centre has returned to Mayawati government the resolution adopted by UP Assembly on the division of the state posing a slew of questions.
