Rajbala death: Congress, BJP in war of words
The death of Ramdev`s disciple Rajbala has led to a political slugfest between BJP and Congress.
New Delhi: The death of Ramdev`s disciple
Rajbala has led to a political slugfest between BJP and
Congress with the former accusing the government of "murder"
while the latter asking the Opposition party to refrain from
"doing politics over the dead".
Rajbala, who battled for life for almost four months in New Delhi`s G B Pant hospital after sustaining serious spinal injuries in the police crackdown on Ramdev`s fast at Ramlila Maidan in June, breathed her last yesterday. Her last rites were performed at Sonepat in Haryana today and attended by senior BJP leader Sushama Swaraj, INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala and others.
Launching a frontal attack on Union Minister Kapil Sibal over the death, Swaraj said, "A day after the incident (police action at Ramlila Ground), (Union Minister) Kapil Sibal said that there was not even a single cane charge, not even a single person was injured... if no one was injured, how did Rajbala die? Kapil Sibal should answer... Rajbala sacrificed her life."
She went on to add, "Rajbala was a disciple of Ramdev and had gone to Delhi on his call. I met the doctors at the G B Pant hospital who told me that her spine had broken... Her murder will become a turning point to shake this government."
Dismissing the criticism, Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi said, "Nobody is responsible. I suggest BJP and Sushma Swaraj not to politicise the issue. They should not try to take political mileage of it. There should be no politics over the dead." PTI
