Dengue cases near 300 in Delhi

New Delhi: With 10 more people testing
positive for dengue, the total number of cases rose to 293 in
the city even as the MCD has launched a special awareness
drive targeting schools.
"Ten new cases of dengue were reported from different hospitals in the past 24 hours," Dr V K Monga, chairman of Municipal Corporation of Delhi, health committee said. He said the civic body is conducting a special campaign in schools to check the spread of the disease. "We had launched a dengue awareness campaign with help from students of both private and government-aided schools. It is helping us a lot," he said.
Under it, students will be given a dengue report card to check the presence of dengue mosquito in their premises, he said.
Prior to it, school children will be educated about Dengue and its preventive measures so that they can spread the message in their families and community.
Rallies by school students and other measures can also be taken in this direction. Information pamphlets on dengue will be distributed among children in all the 1,800 MCD schools as well as government and private schools of the capital, Monga said.
He said that on an average eight to ten cases are being reported daily.
"We have strengthened our detection facilities in all areas. People should be cautious against mosquito breeding especially during September, October and November when Dengue and Chikungunya strike more," he said.
