New Delhi: Government on Friday made it clear that its top priority is to clear the legislative agenda in the remaining part of the Parliament session before dealing with any Opposition-sponsored adjournment motion on black money.
"One thing has to be clearly understood is that Parliament`s first business and top priority is legislative agenda. The primary function is to take up legislative business," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told reporters here.
His remarks came in response to questions whether the adjournment motion being strongly advocated by the BJP in the wake of LK Advani`s rath yatra against black money and corruption could come up next week. While the Winter Session of Parliament is half way through, it has been able to pass only two bills so far due to disruptions for nine days.
A senior minister, who declined to be identified, said the government`s insistence would be on the passage of minor amendment bills like chartered accountants, LIC Bill and Architect Bill and Copyright Bill.
As nine days of the Winter Session have been already lost, the emphasis of the government will be on consideration of as many minor bills as possible. The talk in UPA circles is that the government will have to talk to the allies on all major bills so as to avoid embarrassment like suspension of FDI in multi-brand retail.
