FIG had sent a letter to Dipa confirming the athlete's distinction. Along with the letter, was enclosed a badge that she will be wearing for the Rio Games.

Top 30 qualifiers in multiple apparatus events are awarded with this distinction, which is a once-in-a-career moment for a gymnast.

Karmakar earlier created history by becoming the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics, scoring 14.833 to finish with a gold medal in the women's vaults finals. Not just that, she is also the first Indian gymnast participating in Olympics in 52 years.
