New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday remanded the doctor couple, who had allegedly locked up their 13-year-old maid in their flat here without food while going on a vacation to Bangkok, in police custody for two days.
Sanjay Verma and his wife Sumita had returned to the country on March 30, a day after the incident came to light but were in hiding and were arrested today from near Lifestyle mall in west Delhi`s Rajouri Garden following a tip off.
"The accused are sent to two days of police custody. They should be produced before the court on Saturday," Metropolitan Magistrate Ruchika Singla said.
The police sought two days` custody of the couple to investigate how the maid was kept locked in the house when they had gone to Bangkok. The court had yesterday denied anticipatory to them saying that they had acted in an "inhuman" manner. The couple approached the court after an FIR was lodged against them and look-out notices were issued on April 2 by the Delhi Police.
