New Delhi: Continuing their good run in the ongoing Junior Hockey World Cup 2016, Indian team defeated Spain 2-1 on Wednesday to book their berth for semi-final.

In front of a jam-packed crowd at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, the boys in blue, led by skipper Harjeet Singh, showed a lot of aggression to topple their Spanish opponents.


Despite Spain opening the scoring with Marc Serrahima deflecting a strong hit from Pol Parrilla to go 1-0 up, India bounced to turn around things in second half.


India opened their account in the 57th minute, when Simranjeet Singh finished off a penalty corner.


With just four minutes remaining, Harmanpreet Singh broke the 1-1 deadlock in stunning manner with a lovely drag-flick that sent his team into the semi-finals.


On the other hand, Australia, Pool A winners, beat Pool B runners up Netherlands 2-1 in the other quarter-final. The Burras took the lead thanks to an early goal from Kirin Arunasalam, and then after Jip Janssen equalized midway through the second half they were put ahead by wonderful work from Man-of-the-Match Lachlan Sharp.


Belgium meet reigning champions Germany in the first semi-final from 15:45 IST today. India topped their pool comprising England, South Africa and Canada.
