Kathmandu: The eldest son of noted Nepalese mountaineer Ang Rita Sherpa has died while attempting to scale the world`s highest peak - Mount Everest.
Karsang Namgyal Sherp, 40, fainted on Everest base camp at an altitude of 5,300 metre while attempting to ascend towards the peak, said an official at the Nepal Tourism Board. Karsang, who had conquered the 8,848-metre peak eight times, had informed his team about his health problem.
He has died probably due to the altitude sickness, the official said, adding his body has been brought to Kathmandu today for cremation. Ang Rita, the 10 times Everest summiteer, is also known as the "Snow Leopard".
