New Delhi: Five-time world champion Mary Kom was on Thursday denied a wild card entry by International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the upcoming Rio Games.

Chairman of AIBA and the ad-hoc committee, Kishen Narsi, on Thursday confirmed that veteran pugilist has been denied a wild card entry for the mega tournament.


The Indian Olympic Association and the ad-hoc committee administering boxing in the country had sent a request for a wildcard entry for the celebrated boxer, who could not make the cut via qualifiers.


Mary (51kg), who was a bronze-medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, lost 0-2 to Germany’s Azize Nimani in second round bouts of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana recently.
