Gorakhpur: With eight more reported deaths, the cumulative death toll due to encephalitis has risen to 384 this year in eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions.
Of the eight persons who died on Tuesday, three hailed from Kushinagar district, two from Sant Kabir Nagar district and one each from Deoria, Gorakhpur and Balrampur districts, sources at BRD Medical College Hospital here, where they had been undergoing treatment, said.
They said as many as 28 more patients suffering from encephalitis were admitted in the hospital yesterday. At present, 287 encephalitis patients are undergoing treatment at BRD Medical College Hospital and hospitals in adjacent districts.
A total of 2,511 encephalitis patients have been admitted in government hospitals of the region this year of which 384 have died. Of the total number of people who have died due to encephalitis, 371 have died at BRD Medical College Hospital, sources in the office of Additional Director (Health) said today.
