New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a teenager trainee athlete committed suicide on Tuesday morning after she was denied keeping mobile phone in her hostel room.

According to a Times of India report, Resnamol KS, a 17-year-old athlete at the Wayanad District Sports Council centre in Kalpetta (Kerala) was found hanging in the hostel on Tuesday morning.


The incident happened after her coach and mother scolded her for secretly keeping mobile phone in her hostel room. Resnamol's coach Talib questioned her about the mobile phone on Tuesday morning after some of her colleagues informed him about it during the practice session. Resnamol first said she had purchased it from her savings but later confessed to have sold her earrings for Rs 4,020 to buy the phone.


Trainees are not allowed to use cellphones at the hostel.


Kalpetta sub inspector Raman Unni said Resnamol's coach Talib found the door of the hostel hall locked from inside when he came there for registering his attendance at 11am.


He informed the female hostel warden about it and the student's body was found hanging in the hall when they looked inside.


The report further said that the athlete, who hailed from Cherupuzha in Kannur district had joined the sports hostel last year and was undergoing training under the district sports council.


Resnamol was a Class XII student of the SKMJ Higher Secondary School in Kalpetta.


She had won a triple jump bronze medal n the national inter-club amateur championship recently.
