Islamabad: Four Pakistani soldiers were killed on Sunday in two separate bomb attacks in Balochistan province and the lawless North Waziristan tribal region, described by US officials as a safe haven for Taliban fighters.
A personnel of the Levies militia was killed and two more were injured their vehicle hit a landmine in Dera Bugti area of Balochistan.
The injured men were taken to a nearby hospital. Law enforcement personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search to trace the attackers, officials said.
In the second incident, three soldiers were killed and as many injured when a military convoy was targeted with a remote-controlled bomb in Mirali town of North Waziristan Agency, officials said.
The convoy was on its way to Miranshah, the main town of the region that is a stronghold for Taliban and al Qaeda elements. One vehicle was destroyed by the blast while another was damaged.
No group claimed responsibility for both attacks.
The al Qaeda-linked Haqqani network is based in North Waziristan. The group has been blamed for some of the deadliest attacks in Afghanistan.
