Weightlifters from Arunachal picked up for camp

Weightlifters have been selected by the Indian Weightlifting Federation, for a coaching camp to be held in Houston.

Itanagar: Weightlifters Jimjang Deru and Kujum Taba from Arunachal have been selected by the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF), for a coaching camp to be held in Houston, Texas, ahead of the Olympics qualification at the Senior World Weightlifting Championship.

The qualification round would take place from November 20 to 28 next at the George R Brown Convention Center, General Assembly Theatre 1001 Avenida de las Americas Houston, Texas, an official communiqu said here today.

Deru who won Gold at the recent Youth Commonwealth Games, notched up four Commonwealth records while Taba won Gold in the recently concluded Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship at Pune, the communique said.

They are the first sportspersons from the state to achieve this feat.

Taba and Deru would leave for Texas on November 10 next.
