The 25-year-old Indian debutant got eliminated from the prestigious quadrennial games after his pre-quarterfinal opponent Viktor Lebedev of Russia was beaten 1-6 against Iran`s Hassan Rahimi in their last-eight contest at Carioca Arena.

According to the Repechage system, Tomar would have got a chance of clinching a bronze medal for the country had Lebedev reached the finals of the competition.

Earlier in a day, Tomar, who was expected to bring glory for the country in the absence of embattled wrestler Narsingh Yadav at the ongoing Rio Olympics, suffered a 3-7 defeat at the hands of the Russian in the round of 16.
