Advani`s yatra can`t fight graft: Congress
A day ahead of the commencement of LK Advani`s Jan Chetna yatra, the ruling Congress slammed the main opposition party for its doubled standards.

New Delhi: A day ahead of the commencement of BJP veteran LK Advani’s Jan Chetna yatra, the ruling Congress on Monday slammed the main opposition party for its doubled standards on the most pressing issues.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “BJP intends to raise four major issues during LK Advani’s yatra including corruption. But there is a huge difference between what it preaches and what it practices. The party has no right to take out an anti-graft rath yatra, as it is involved ‘neck-deep’ in corruption in those states where it has its government.”
Taking a dig at Advani’s Jan Chetna yatra, Tewari said, “The menace of corruption can’t be fought with yatras only, rather it should be dealt with resolute action and stringent measures.” "The recent developments in two of the BJP-ruled states Karnataka and Uttarakhand have completely exposed the party. In Karnataka, its Chief Minister had a clash with the Lokayukta, and in Uttarakhand the party had to remove its Chief Minister against whom there were several complaints related to corruption. So it seems that BJP must take out a yatra in its own state first before taking it to other states.”
Shifting his focus to the split verdict given by the Gujarat High Court on a plea challenging the appointment of Lokayukta by Gujarat Governor Dr Kamala Beniwal, Tewari said, “The decision is a major setback for the Modi government and it would be quite interesting to see whether the party decides to challenge it further in a higher court or not.”
Stressing that that there has always been a gap between what BJP preached and what it actually does, Tewari warned that its intention to thrust a mid-term elections on the country will never materialize. “Advani’s Jan Chetna yatra has nothing to do with corruption in the same manner as a previous fast by one of its tallest leader (Narendra Modi ) had little to do Sadbhawana (harmony). It just wants to wants to convert 2014 into 2012, which will never turn into a reality.”
Reactions from the Congress party came hours after Advani slammed the UPA government for lacking willpower to curb corruption and bringing disgrace to the nation.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, BJP stalwart said, “The UPA leadership is weak and lacks willpower to curb corruption, which is rampant in the country. Lack of leadership in UPA is the main reason behind people`s anger against the government. It has failed to live up to the people’s expectation and provide a transparent and accountable governance.”
