New Delhi: Croatia's Ivo Karlovic on Thursday became the all-time leader in aces overtaking compatriot Goran Ivanisevic's record of 10,237.
The 6ft 11in from Zagreb produced 26 aces, against Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas, for a career total of 10,247 but lost the match 7-6(5), 7-6(6) in their Round of 16 clash in Beijing.
Karlovic, who is the tallest ever player on the ATP Tour, held the record for the fastest serve recorded in professional tennis, at 251 km/h, before being surpassed by Samuel Groth in 2012.
"It's a great feeling. For the past year I knew it was possible and I was hoping that it would be this year. It's great that it happened here," the 36-year-old was quoted as saying by ATP.
And the world no. 18 went onto say that, "I'm not done yet. There are many years in front of me and hopefully that number will go up and up."
