The 14-times Grand Slam champion overcame a wayward Wawrinka 6-3, 6-2 to move level with Andy Murray at the top of Ilie Nastase Group, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Nadal, who climbed back to fifth in the rankings after falling to a miserable 10th earlier this year, has won 14 of his 18 matches since a disappointing defeat in the US Open third round.

The Spaniard will next face Britain number one Murray on Wednesday.
