New Delhi: Top seed Stan Wawrinka won Japan Open after beating Frenchman Benoit Paire in straight sets on Sunday.
The reigning French Open champion dominated the final match against struggling Paire to win the match 6-2, 6-4 over 65 minutes at the Ariake Colosseum, and become the first Swiss to win the trophy since Roger Federer in 2006.
It was Wawrinka's fourth title of the year, with a perfect record in the finals in 2015. Having already qualified for the next month's season-ending ATP Tour Finals in London, he wasted little time in stamping his class and broke his opponent in the sixth game for a 4-2 lead.
In the second, Paire fought a valiant battle to break the fourth rank player in the fifth game, after losing his serve in the previous game. Wawrinka then broke Paire twice to win the set and and title.
Thanks to the win, Wawrinka is now 11-9 lifetime in title matches, and recorded his fifth win over Paire.
Besides Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Federer have also booked their respective places for the ATP World Tour Finals.
