Our actions show our resolve: Sonia on corruption
Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in her first public speech post surgery, reiterated the UPA government`s resolve to eradicate corruption.

New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in her first public speech post surgey, reiterated the UPA government’s resolve to eradicate corruption from public life.
Addressing Youth Congress’ national convention here on Tuesday, she said, “Corruption is a plague of public life. We are committed to eradicate it. Our actions have more than shown our resolve.”
“It is our government that brought in MNREGA, RTI, Forest Rights Act, Right to Education and Right to Food Bill will introduced in the current session of Parliament,” she pointed out while also mentioning the UID scheme initiated by the government. “The RTI has placed in the hands of the people, in the hands of you all, a powerful weapon against corruption. Together with a powerful Lokpal Bill the government is working on a number of legislations to fight corruption, I hope the Opposition will support in passing these important measures” she added.
Goading the Youth Congress’ towards work for spreading the word about the achievements of the government, she said, “…But we all know that true empowerment will come through participation and it is for the Youth congress to ensure that.”
“The Congress has a long history of sacrifice; we believe that politics is an instrument to serve people…it is not about exhorting power. It is about building a better world,” she said. Praising the work being done by the Youth Congress, she lauded the democratic manner in which it conducted its polls.
Stressing that it is the youth who only can take the nation ahead in the future, she said that former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi had dreamt of the pivotal role the youth will play in the nation’s future in 21st century.
Sonia added that Indian youth are making a mark across the world and they should realise that they have the power to bring about change.
