Bhandari participated in a special puja and spent about an hour at the famous Nattathueswaran temple, the temple trustees said.

He was received by Erode Collector S Prabakar, District Judge and temple trustees including A Gandhi.

Security was beefed up in and around the temple in view of the judge's visit.

Gandhi said Justice Bhandari visited the temple on learning about it.

The temple is located in the middle of Cauvery river and devotees have to use ferry services when the water level rises.

Later, he left for Coimbatore by road.

Bhandari, nominated by India to the ICJ, was re-elected on November 21 to the last seat of the Hague-based world court after Britain withdrew its candidate from the election.
